Williams (60 miles away) and Page (3+ hours away) are the other gateway options. In-park rooms are scheduled to take arrivals again from November 20.

What is open inside the park right now

Grand Canyon National Park lists “Effective Monday, August 31, 2026, all park concessions will halt overnight accommodations” after an August 29 flash flood damaged inner-canyon infrastructure. That covers El Tovar, Bright Angel Lodge, Kachina, Thunderbird, Maswik, Yavapai Lodge, Trailer Village and Phantom Ranch.

The concessioner’s alert page, updated October 13, 2026, says closures run through November 19 and that reservations arriving November 20 and later are proceeding as planned. It has extended the date several times, so check it before you commit.

The park itself stays open to day visitors. Lodging outside the boundary was not affected. Because of that, the hotels below are all gateway properties. The closed lodges are left out of the table.

The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon

The Grand Hotel at the Grand Canyon is in Tusayan at 149 State Highway 64, about 2 miles (3 km) from the South Entrance, roughly a five-minute drive. It has 121 rooms, an indoor heated pool, pet-friendly rooms and a steakhouse with live music.

The listing estimates USD 200–450 per night (grandcanyon.com, undated 2025 page). Downside: its estimate band is the highest in Tusayan.

Holiday Inn Resort Grand Canyon

Holiday Inn Resort Grand Canyon, at 74 Highway 64 in Tusayan, is the big resort option, with indoor and outdoor pools, hot tubs, an arcade and a splash pad. Its own site shows a USD 25 nightly amenity fee on every booking.

Distance to the entrance is listed inconsistently across sources, from about 2 to 7 miles, so check a map. No current nightly rate is published on its page.

Red Feather Lodge

Red Feather Lodge, 300 Highway 64 in Tusayan, is a family-owned property with 260 rooms and an on-site restaurant. It is the practical pick for pets and tighter budgets.

The listing estimates USD 140–280 per night, about 10 minutes by car from the entrance. The pool is seasonal, roughly May through September, so winter guests lose it.

Grand Canyon Plaza Hotel

Grand Canyon Plaza Hotel, at 406 Canyon Plaza Lane in Tusayan, has 232 rooms, a glass-roofed atrium and a year-round indoor spa. It is about 1 mile from the entrance, a five-minute drive.

Estimated rates run USD 120–300. Breakfast is not included in the room rate, and the outdoor pool is open May to September only.

Grand Canyon Railway Hotel

Grand Canyon Railway Hotel, 233 N. Grand Canyon Blvd. in Williams, is built like a century-old depot beside the train station. The railway covers about 65 miles in 2 hours 15 minutes, and Williams is about 59 miles from the South Rim.

Coach fares were USD 70 for adults in the 2025 listing. No room rate is published on the hotel page.

Dreamkatchers Lake Powell Bed & Breakfast

Dreamkatchers Lake Powell Bed & Breakfast, 1055 S. American Way in Page, has three guest rooms and a full breakfast. Wikivoyage lists USD 130–280, undated.

Page suits trips that include Horseshoe Bend and Lake Powell. The South Rim is more than a three-hour drive south, so it is a poor base for the park itself.

Where to stay

Choose Tusayan if the canyon is the main reason for the trip. It has the shortest drive to the rim and a seasonal shuttle into the park. Choose Williams for the train or cheaper rooms, and Page only if Lake Powell is on the list.

Many travelers arrive from Los Angeles.

Who should skip the rim and when to avoid it

Skip a rim-side base if you need a guaranteed in-park room before November 20; the reopening date has been pushed back four times since August. Think twice about the North Rim too. It reopened May 15, 2026, but the park says overnight lodging will not be available there in 2026, and no season end date was published. The nearest food, fuel and water are at the North Rim Country Store and Jacob Lake.

Avoid Page as a base for the South Rim. Desert View Campground ran April 11 to October 11 in 2026, so it is also finished for the year.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you stay inside Grand Canyon National Park right now?

No. All park concession lodging, including El Tovar, Maswik and Phantom Ranch, is closed through November 19, 2026. Reservations arriving November 20 and later are currently proceeding as planned, per the concessioner’s October 13 alert. Hotels in Tusayan, outside the boundary, remain open.

How far is Tusayan from the Grand Canyon?

Tusayan is just outside the South Entrance. Listings put its hotels between 1 and 2 miles from the gate, and the National Park Service says it is 7 miles south of Grand Canyon Village on Highway 64. Expect about a five-minute drive to the entrance.

Is Williams a good place to stay for the Grand Canyon?

Yes, if you want the train or lower prices. Williams is about 60 miles from the South Rim, roughly a one-hour drive. The Grand Canyon Railway runs about 65 miles each way in 2 hours 15 minutes, which saves driving and parking.

Is the North Rim open for lodging in 2026?

No. The North Rim reopened May 15, 2026, but overnight lodging inside the park is not available there this season. The park’s closest services are the North Rim Country Store and Jacob Lake. Campground reopening depends on conditions.

Is Page a good base for the Grand Canyon?

Only for the Page area. Page has Horseshoe Bend and Lake Powell close by, but the South Rim is more than three hours south. Pick Tusayan or Williams for the park.
