Louvre Pyramid and palace facade glowing at dusk in Paris

A standard Louvre ticket costs EUR 32 for visitors from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) and EUR 22 for EEA visitors, and booking a time slot online is recommended for everyone. From October 17 to November 1, 2026, a reservation is required for nearly all visitors. The museum is closed on Tuesdays and open until 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays. Rules below were checked on louvre.fr and parismuseumpass.fr in October 2026.

Option Duration From (as listed) Best for
Official timed-entry ticket Open schedule EUR 32 (non-EEA) Most first-time visitors
Paris Museum Pass 48, 96 or 144 hours EUR 85 (2 days) Visiting several paid sites
“Welcome to the Louvre” guided tour About 1.5 hours EUR 12 plus admission Must-see artworks with context
“Another Louvre” guided tour About 1.5 hours EUR 12 plus admission Lesser-known rooms
Paris Walks small-group highlights tour Not stated EUR 90 including entrance Groups of up to 6 people
Wednesday or Friday evening visit Until 9:00 PM EUR 32 (non-EEA) A later start

What a Louvre ticket costs and how timed entry works

The Louvre’s admission page lists two standard rates, applying from January 14, 2026. EEA citizens and residents pay EUR 22. Everyone else pays EUR 32. Under-18s are free, as are EEA residents under 26 with proof of age.

Time-slot booking is recommended for every visitor, including those with free admission. Between October 17 and November 1, 2026, a reservation is required for all visitors except certain cardholders listed on the museum’s page, such as Amis du Louvre and ICOM members.

Book only on ticket.louvre.fr. The museum warns that tickets from mirror sites or street sellers may mean refused entry. Leaving the building is final. Last entry is one hour before closing, and galleries are cleared 30 minutes before closing.

Louvre ticket options compared

1. Official timed-entry ticket – the default choice

You pick a date and time slot on the official site. A non-EEA adult pays EUR 32 (rate checked October 2026). The ticket also gives same-day or next-day entry to the Musee national Eugene-Delacroix, according to the Louvre.

It suits first-timers who want their own route; the Louvre also sells a EUR 6 audio guide. The downside is price: non-EEA visitors pay EUR 10 more. The EEA rate covers citizens and residents with a permit or a visa longer than three months, so a US tourist pays EUR 32.

2. Paris Museum Pass – only if you will use it

The official pass site lists 2 days (48 hours) at EUR 85, 4 days (96 hours) at EUR 105 and 6 days (144 hours) at EUR 125, with service fees in certain sales networks. It covers more than 50 museums and monuments and, on average, saves money from the 4th visit (2-day), 5th (4-day) or 6th (6-day).

Validity runs by the hour from your first visit: a 2-day pass activated Wednesday at 3 p.m. lasts until Friday at 3 p.m.

The catch is the Louvre itself. The pass site’s reservation page says a Louvre time slot is needed for pass holders too. The reservation is free, but only a booked slot guarantees entry; queueing without one can fail at busy periods.

A EUR 85 pass costs more than twice a EUR 32 ticket, so it only wins with several other paid sites.

3. “Welcome to the Louvre” guided tour – highlights in about 90 minutes

The museum’s own highlights tour lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes and covers the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory of Samothrace and the medieval moat. The fee is EUR 12 (EUR 9 reduced) and covers the tour only, so you buy admission as well.

English departures are daily at 11:00 AM and 2:00 PM, plus 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM on Fridays. The meeting point is the groups reception area.

The downside: it is a sampler. A non-EEA adult pays EUR 44 in total (EUR 12 plus EUR 32).

4. “Another Louvre” guided tour – quieter corners

This second official tour is aimed at adults. The Louvre describes it as a visit away from the crowds, showing lesser-known treasures. It lasts about 1 hour 30 minutes, runs in French and English and meets at the groups reception area.

The fee is EUR 12 (EUR 9 reduced) on top of admission. The listed times are Mondays, Fridays and Saturdays at 10:30 AM and Fridays at 6:00 PM, with Sundays and 2:30 PM departures added from October 17 to November 1, 2026.

5. Paris Walks small-group and private tours – for a guided pace

Paris Walks is an English-language walking tour company. Its page lists a highlights tour every Friday at 4 p.m. for EUR 90 per person including entrance, limited to 6 people. It covers the Mona Lisa, the Winged Victory and the Venus de Milo. Entrance is booked through Paris Walks, and museum passes are not valid.

Its private museum tours page lists a private Louvre highlights tour starting at EUR 270 plus EUR 35 entrance per adult, for up to 6 people, lasting two and a half hours. Booking is by email, and the scheduled tour’s length is not stated.

The downside is cost: a EUR 90 seat is well above the official EUR 12 tour plus EUR 32 ticket. It suits a small party that values a fixed guide.

6. Wednesday or Friday evening visit – a later start

The Louvre stays open until 9:00 PM on Wednesdays and Fridays. Last entry is one hour before closing, so aim for an entry slot between 5:00 PM and 7:00 PM. No special ticket is needed, so non-EEA adults pay the standard EUR 32, and the Friday English tours at 6:00 PM and 7:00 PM fit in.

The downside is time: you may have only two hours, so pick a short list.

Entry is free for everyone on the first Friday of the month after 6:00 PM, except in July and August.

Who should skip a guided tour

Skip a guided tour if:

– You dislike group pacing and want to linger in one gallery. – You have only two hours, for example on a Friday evening. – You hold a Paris Museum Pass and want to use it, since the Paris Walks tour does not accept it.

Never plan a Louvre day for a Tuesday. The museum is also closed on January 1, May 1 and December 25.

Where to stay near the Louvre

For an early slot, stay in the 1st arrondissement near the Tuileries or Palais-Royal, within walking distance. Saint-Germain suits travelers who want cafes nearby, and the Marais is lively after a late Friday visit.
